If you’re looking for a family day out in Surrey, you don’t need sunshine to have fun – there’s plenty to do indoors too! Starting with our impressive indoor Play Barn – a brilliant space where kids can run, climb, slide and explore all year round. Add in insect encounters, imaginative play and interesting animal facts and you’ve got a farm visit packed with fun and learning from start to finish.
Indoor Play
We know how unpredictable the British weather can be – but at Godstone Farm, a rainy day never means a wasted one. Our giant indoor Play Barn – Surrey’s largest soft play centre – is a firm favourite with families and a perfect stop off during your day out. It’s clean, spacious and safe, with soft play, baby and toddler areas and comfortable seating for parents to enjoy a cuppa and cake while watching the kids having fun. There’s a great choice of hot and cold food and drinks in Wiglet’s cafe – why not treat yourself to lunch while you’re in here.
Imaginative Play
Cross the bridge into the upper level of the Play Barn where pretend play takes centre stage. Children can explore a miniature world with a camping site, bakery, vet, workshop and stage area – complete with props! There’s also a sensory zone for our visitors with additional needs – the upper level really is the kind of space where imaginations can run wild!
Role play is more than just fun – it’s also brilliant for confidence, social skills and storytelling. Whether they’re playing shopkeeper, pretending to be their favourite star, checking x-rays or practising their camping skills for the Godstone Farm Big Farm Sleepover, little ones love stepping into character!

Insects and other Impressive Creatures
Godstone Farm isn’t just home to fluffy and furry animals – it’s also a brilliant place for kids to discover the minibeasts and insects that play such an important part in our ecosystem. Head to The Reptile House where you’ll find stick insects, giant snails, katydids and cockroaches, as well as interesting reptiles. While inside this area, you’ll also find artefacts and other insects that will spark young curious minds. It’s a brilliant opportunity for children to get up close to creepy-crawlies that they might usually shy away from – and to learn just how fascinating they really are!

Interesting Animal Facts
It’s far better for kids to get out in the fresh air and enjoy some hands on learning and we aim to make a day out at Godstone Farm informative and educational, as well as a whole lot of fun!
For now here are some facts about some of the animals you’ll find at Godstone Farm
- A goat’s pupils are rectangular, giving them panoramic vision – this means that they can look out for predators, even when they’re grazing.
- Highland cows have a double coat to keep them warm in cold weather.
- Ponies live in herds and form lifelong friendships.
- Some insects, such as butterflies, taste with their feet.
- Snakes shed their skin because their skin doesn’t grow with them alongside everything else in their body. When you’re in the reptile house take a peek into one of our snake enclosures and chances are you might see some remains of their old skin in the tank. The snakes at Godstone Farm are Albert, Cleo and Frank!
- Meerkats work together in their group, you’ll notice one is always on lookout while the others hunt around looking for food.
- Pigs are generally pregnant for 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days – that’s an easy one to remember!
- A baby guinea pig is born with hair, open eyes and ears and is able to move around shortly after birth, whereas baby rabbits are born blind, deaf and completely dependent on their mother for milk. Baby rabbits will stay hidden away in the nest for at least a couple of weeks after birth.
- If you take a look at our peafowl, the male peacocks are the ones with the long tail feathers, the females have smaller tails and aren’t so brightly coloured. Peafowl can actually fly, which is quite surprising considering the size of them, but they can only fly a short distance – they will generally only fly to avoid obstacles or predators or to roost in a tree.
Every visit to the farm is a chance to learn something new. Our friendly team love sharing their knowledge during animal encounters, as well as seasonal talks and activities. It’s hands-on learning that will stick with the kids long after the day is over.
