This month we are going to feature some of our lovely Godstone Farm goats on social media with our endearing Goat of the Week posts! Make sure you are following our social media channels to see which of our goats has been chosen by our farm staff each week, and why.
We have several different breeds of goats at Godstone Farm. We love our goats, they are all beautifully natured and very friendly!
Pygmy goats
Our lovely little Pygmy goats are instantly recognisable by their short legs and stocky bodies. They are originally from Africa and are hardy and with a gentle nature. They have hair between their hooves to help them grip on the slippery hillsides in their natural habitat – which comes in handy for the mud created by our British weather! Pygmy goats enjoy the company of other goats and don’t like to be alone.
Anglo Nubian goats
You will notice that our Anglo Nubian goats have a distinguishable Roman nose and long droopy ears. They are taller than the pygmy goats with a longer body and a more upright position. Anglo Nubian goats are native to Britain with a very friendly nature -they enjoy interaction with people and need the company of other goats. They benefit from being in a large enclosure with space to roam.
Golden Guernsey goats
Our Golden Guernseys are the newest breed of goat introduced to Godstone Farm. Golden Guernsey goats are a lovely golden colour, varying from very pale to a deeper gold colour. These docile goats were first imported to England in 1965 from Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Their milk has a particularly high cream content, although none of our animals are used for milking. Goat’s milk is often consumed by those who are lactose intolerant.
You can see why we love our goats can’t you! You can get up closer to these beautiful animals by booking a goat experience at Godstone Farm, one of our amazing animal experiences we have proudly introduced at Godstone Farm. Our goat experience is a perfect opportunity to meet some of our friendly goats, help to feed and learn more about them from a member of our dedicated farm team. You can find out more about our goat, and other animal experiences, on the Godstone Farm website.
