Supporting small local businesses is really important and means a lot to us as a farm! Supporting your local shops, restaurants, pubs, venues etc is paramount for building a stronger community! In the food industry, locally sourced products hugely reduce transport miles, thereby significantly reducing the amount of co2 emissions. Many local businesses produce a great range of stock, with unique flavour combinations, that you’re unlikely to find in a supermarket, therefore these make great gifts for someone special! Let’s face it we all know someone who would be over the moon if gifted a tasty pot of jam or some delicious biscuits!!
At Godstone Farm we are proud to stock some produce from small local businesses, so when you’re in the Gift Shop take a look at the fabulous selection we have on offer!
Ruby’s Homemade Biscuits – Burgess Hill
We have a wonderful choice of cakes and teatime treats, baked with love by Ruby’s Bakery, who are a local family run business, based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. Ruby’s Bakery was founded by a couple with over sixty years experience in the baking and food distribution industry. Established in 2007, they’re proud to say that it’s family run throughout by three generations of their family – plus of course with help from their team of loyal and dedicated staff.
With a mouth-watering choice of cookies, including butter shortbread rounds, toffee and date cookies and jumping beans cookies, plus a variety of Viennese whirls, including blackcurrant sundae whirls, salted caramel whirls and lemon shortcake – we think the only problem you’ll have is choosing which to buy.
Jam Packed Preserves – Epsom
Based in Epsom, the founders of Jam Packed Preserves initially started out because they didn’t like food waste. They had a surplus of fruit from their allotment and after grabbing Grandma’s family recipe, made their first pot of raspberry jam. The seeds were sown and they have continued to grow their range, yet always valuing the ethos from where they started – including using local and ethically sourced, sustainable ingredients.
At the Gift Shop in Godstone Farm, we have a tasty choice of jams, chutneys and marmalades, plus a delicious range of award winning Surrey honey. You’ll find great combinations such as courgette and apple chutney and real ale chutney, plus apricot extra jam and a host more fruity favourites!
Crumbs Brewing – Reigate
Beer that fights food waste – crumbs what a great idea! Crumbs Brewing was started in 2017 by a Reigate husband and wife team, after being shocked by the amount of wastage their local bakery had to deal with. Crumbs Brewing is a family run business, in partnership with Crafty Brewing and they use the unsold bread from Chalk Hills bakery and turn it into beer! Each beer is brewed using a different type of bread to give unique flavours. Did you know that 44% of bread made in the UK is not eaten, so this small business is doing a great job at helping to fight local food waste.
One of these artisan products could become your new favourite tipple – Naan lager, Bloomin’ Amber lager, Rye Ruby ale or Sour dough pale ale!
We’re sure you’ll agree that our range of locally crafted and sustainable produce from across Surrey and Sussex, are a great addition to our Gift Shop. We also think they’ll be perfect gifts, or a lovely treat for yourself following a visit to the farm!
