Structured school program

Our schools program has been designed to complement Key Stage Two subjects that are covered in the classroom, mixed-in with fun experiences. Please note that the structured schools program is not suitable for nursery aged children.

Minimum number for our Key Stage Two Package is 20 children.

If you are a smaller educational group, with a minimum of 8 children, you can purchase our Small Educational Group Package, which includes a self-led visit to the farm and a private animal interaction session. Please note, our Small Educational Group Visits do not include our talks or a Picnic Barn.

Our structured school visits include:

  • Entrance to the farm for the whole day
  • A morning of outside activities with one of our farm team
  • An afternoon of free time to explore the farm
  • One free adult per 5 children / One free adult for any 1:1 children

Key Stage Two Activities

Choose from the following activities:

  • Meet the Animals – A chance to get up close to and meet the small animals.  The session takes place inside the animal interactions barn, rabbit walk or on the animal interactions lawn with the chance to see, feed, and learn all about small animals including rabbits, chicks, chickens, guinea pigs and our oldest resident George the tortoise.
  • Pig Talk – A short talk on our perfect piggies and the opportunity to help the farmer feed one and to watch them enjoying their food. We run a successful all year-round breeding programme so will try to include piglets where possible.
  • Pond Activities (Double Session) – Enter our gated area with 3 identification stations and jetties. Grab your net & tray, kneel on our pads and dig deep to discover the delights of our man made, Surrey Hills-fed Warren Island pond.
  • Minibeasts & Habitats – Come and explore our minibeast garden. With your booklet and magnifying glass come and investigate a variety of minibeasts, try some hands-on classifying and explore a variety of minibeast habitats looking at adaptations.
  • Reptiles and their Adaptations – Come and learn all about our reptiles – learn what makes a reptile and compare the difference between our bearded dragon and our leopard gecko. Look at our snakes and compare their differences in sizes, colours and the foods that they eat.
  • Bird Talk – Come and meet and greet our variety of feathered friends in all shapes and sizes from rheas to chickens, our wonderful owl Echo and our loud Ducks! Learn about their adaptations and their journey from egg to full grown bird!
    * Please note that during periods of avian flu, this activity will be unavailable. An alternative activity will be offered.
  • Equine Talk – Come say hello to our donkeys and ponies. See the difference in their size and learn how to measure in ‘hands’. Take a look at their shoes, their eyes and learn more about their fantastic memory and the jobs they help us with both historically and still today! Compare and contrast the difference between the two.
  • Barn Talk – Peep into the main barn and see if you can spot our cute goat kids, some spring lambs or some gorgeous alpacas. It’s always a lovely experience to explore the Barn and hear about the wonderful animals, have a turn at milking our goat Gloria.
  • What makes a seed Grow? – Where does our food come and why farming is so important? A session which looks at classifying a range of seeds we use here on the farm, looking at what the seeds need to grow, taking a look at how vegetables grow, plus what happens above and below the ground. Getting the beds ready and planting seeds/plants in our schools garden.
  • Lambing Talk & Activities – Lambing is one of the busiest times on the farm, we will look at scans , talk about the process of lambing, take a look in our lambing toolbox to see what tools we use for lambing on the farm and have a go at using or lambing box to see if you can help out our cardboard sheep!
  • Dinosaur Walk Self-Lead Tour – Come and explore our Dinosaur trail! Come into our woods and see if you can find our dinosaurs from the world of Dinosaur ROAR! Using our trail booklet you can follow the trail and learn all about the different dinosaurs and their different sizes, skills and bodies. Find out facts, such as how big were the teeth of a Tyrannosaurus Rex or how long was a diplodocus.

  • Group rates apply for a minimum group size of 20 children. Groups with less than 20 will be required to pay the minimum of 20 children. Allowances are made for groups with disabilities, please mention this at the time of booking.
  • Children are payable aged 1+, children under one are free of charge.
  • Price includes one free adult per five children. Teachers, class assistants, adult helpers etc. will be included in your total number of adults.  Additional adults are chargeable at £9.25 per person off peak & £10.25 per person peak.
  • Children and adults with Annual Passes are not exempt from group admission fees and must be included in your total number of children.
  • Bookings must be made in advance.
  • No deposit required.
  • Invoices will be raised ahead of your visit, and payment is required 10 working days before your visit.
  • Payment must be made before visiting the farm.
  • If you will not be arriving together we will also require a group list ahead of your visit. Should we not receive your group list; visitors will be asked to wait at admissions until the whole group has arrived.
  • Opening times are 10am-4.45pm. Suggested time of arrival is from 9.45am, if you arrive earlier you may need to wait for your schools team member. Activities to start by 10.30am, your arrival time will determine the activities booked.
  • Activities are subject to availability and will continue in most weathers.
  • School bookings include the hire of a picnic area.
  • The picnic area is allocated on the number of children attending. Adults and parents cannot be guaranteed a seat in the picnic barn.
  • Schools visits do not include the Indoor Play Barn & Wiglet’s Play Village.
  • Pond Dipping / Mini Beast Walk is classed as 2 activities due to the time it takes to complete this task.
  • Pre-Visit Risk Assessments to be carried out during state school term time only – not the weekends and you will be required to wear you school ID badge. Please note any children visiting with you during your pre-visit assessment will be asked to pay the regular admission fee.
  • If you book for classes less than 30 we may need to discuss merging your classes, our team work on a 1:30 ratio.

Payment:

Payment is required 10 working days before your visit. Once a booking has been created, an invoice is then raised with details on how to pay. We do accept card payments, cheques or a bank transfer. If payment hasn’t been received 10 working days before the visit, a 10% charge will be added to the invoice.
